Deputy Secretary of Hunan Provincial Party Committee Wu Lan Visits HNUST















Wu Lan, Deputy Secretary of Hunan Provincial Party Committee, paid a visit to HNUST on September 20th. On behalf of the provincial government, she came to know about the school’s development and extended sincere congratulations to her 70th anniversary. Wu said that the past 70 years had witnessed her achievements on education, scientific research and social service, especially the most famous deep sea floor drilling rig “Hainiu”, and suggested building a more innovative university with her own characteristics.
After listening to the work report delivered by HNUST Party Committee Secretary Liu Deshun, Wu proposed five requirements for the school’s development. First, to strengthen the leadership of the Communist Party. HNUST shall be built under socialist principles. Second, to implement morality education with ideological and political courses and to cultivate socialist successors. Third, to carry out down-to-earth thematic education in accordance with central government’s requirements. Fourth, to strive for intensive development based on its unique advantages. HNUST shall improve its scientific research level to meet the current rising demand for high quality social-economic development in Hunan. Fifth, to maintain campus safety and stability. It’s essential to keep the school safe politically and realistically while give overall consideration to the anniversary so that all staff and students could be encouraged to build HNUST as a “Double First-Class” university.
After visiting our national and local joint engineering laboratory of exploration and mining equipment and safety technology, Wu listened to the work report from Professor Wan Buyan. She spoke highly of the practice that the laboratory party branch made party building lead deep-sea exploration to promote party building and professional work to be developed together. She hoped that the school could promote this practice so as to contribute more to thesocietyand thecountry.
Wu also visited thematic education exhibition Stay True to the Founding Mission and the Smart Manufacturing exhibition of fine designs in the School of Architecture and Art Design. She said that the university should constantly improve the “all-member, whole-course and all-around” talents cultivation system. In addition, she pointed that HNUST should learn from the goodexperience and combine party building with teaching to cultivate more high-quality talents who meet the needs of social development.
In the School of Marxism, Wu visited the achievements exhibition of discipline construction of Marxism theory. And she stressed that the school needs not only to do better theoretical research, but also to apply the achievements to teaching andpractice. Especially for ideological and political theory courses, teachers should ensure that students can understand and bear these theories in mind.
In front of the Lide building, Wu and her colleagues took a group photo with all school leaders. Later, they visited the exhibition of achievements made during the past seven decades in the school.
HNUST Party Secretary Liu Deshun, president Zhu Chuanqu and other school leaders accompanied Wu during the visits and reported on how HNUST is running.
