To memorize revolutionary martyrs and develop the revolutionary spirits, the national flag honor guard of the university participated in a solemn tomb-sweeping activity with the theme of “Recalling the revolutionary martyrs and constructing beautiful city”, held by the communist youth league of Xiangtan municipal committee and the civil affairs bureau of Xiangtan on the afternoon of April 2. Present at the ceremony were some city leaders including Shi Pei, the deputy secretary of the Communist Youth League of Xiangtan Municipal Committee, Li Ruilin, Committee Member of Xiangtan Civil Affairs Bureau and chairman of the Labor Union, and more than 900 students from Hunan University of Science and Technology, Hunan College of Engineering, Hunan Vocational and Technical College of Science and Technology, Jin Ting School, Yifu School and No.16 Secondary School of Xiangtan.
Dressed in green uniform with white gloves, the national flag honor guards of our university lined up in front of the South Campus Library and then set out for the city Martyr Cemetery to join in a 3.5-hour activity. Their orderly queue, steady strides and vigorous posture demonstrated the spirit of Campus National Flag Group. At the solemn ceremony, the guards of courtesy salute and present flower baskets to the martyrs.
Along with the stately national anthem, all people present bowed and saluted to the grave monument. “Only by remembering the revolutionary martyrs can we really know to cherish our hard-won happy life.” said Shi Bei, the deputy secretary of Xiangtan Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League. She made a speech in front of the monument, “A nation strengthens along with its young generation. As students, you shoulder the historical mission and social responsibility. So you should carry out the behest of the martyrs, and strive to realizing the Chinese dream of great rejuvenation”.
Tomb-sweeping in April is a tradition for the national flag honor guard. Every year they present flower baskets to the monument and keep in close touch with the staff of Martyr Cemetery. Huang Jing, director of the martyrs Cemetery Administration Office, gave a high appreciation to the work done by campus national flag group. In the end, the Deputy Captain concluded that the “zero error” in this activity could fully prove the hard work of all the group members. The participation in this activity is a chance for the college students to memorize the revolutionary martyrs as well as to better understand the spirit of the martyrs and know how to be a qualified national flag guard.
