On the evening of November 24th, HNUST held the 2021 Experience Sharing Meeting of Outstanding Students in South Campus Club. Liao Xiangyue, Vice President of HNUST, deputy Party secretaries and counselors of schools, all leaders of Student Affairs Office as well as student representatives of schools attended the meeting. Liao Huan, a senior of the safety engineering major from School of Resource & Environment and Safety Engineering, You Qian, a senior of the network engineering major from School of Computer Science and Engineering, and Tang Wenbo, a third-year postgraduate student majoring in the mechanical engineering from School of Mechanical Engineering, shared their experience at the meeting as outstanding student representatives.
Liao Xiangyue pointed out that in recent years, HNUST has been committed to fostering a new generation with an all-round moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic grounding, in addition to a hard-working spirit, and striving to provide students with a more comfortable learning environment and high-quality learning resources. He hoped that the younger generation should dream big and become a qualified person of high morality to shoulder great responsibilities. Ambition is not only the beacon in the journey of life, but the direction of making achievements and the powerful spiritual motivation to forge ahead. Liao Xiangyue expressed his hope that this meeting will create a good atmosphere for study and deeply inspire the students of HNUST to follow the outstanding students and make great achievements in the future.
Liao Huan has achieved the transformation from "near eliminated one" to "Tsinghua student". For three consecutive years, her score ranked first in the grade, and her GPA (Grade Point Average) of the previous six semesters reached 3.9, the highest record since the establishment of the school. Even for the excellent academic achievement, Liao Huan also had been frustrated and confused. But with determination, she went through hot summers and cold winters in the library. And eventually, the seed in her mind that was planted in the sophomore year to apply for the qualification of postgraduate recommendation blossomed and borne fruit this year.
You Qian, who had ranked first both in comprehensive assessment for three consecutive years and exam-free recommendation in her grade in her school, was recommended for admission to Southern University of Science and Technology for the master’s degree. She followed the step of her mentor during undergraduate period to explore, study and do research on mobile edge computing. Meanwhile, she joined in the project development group presided by the dean of department, which made her familiar with the fundamental procedures of project development and enhanced her ability of inter-group cooperation and communication. Kind and humorous, she served as the assistant teacher of the 2019 freshmen and gave them supervision and guidance to study hard. Besides, she is the part-time counsellor of formative education for the 2020 freshmen, answering their questions about study and life and positively giving guidance for their college life.
Themed by “My Experience of Scientific Research”, Tang Wenbo expressed his strong interest in marine field and shared his own experience of doing scientific research. Not only did he get on Exploration Ⅰ Ship diving into the West Philippine Basin, but also participated in the scientific investigation of the Mariana Trench on the Flight TS21. In addition, he shared with all that he had carried out a task by the manned submersible “Striver” for the first time and used a video recording scientific investigation to show the marine research life in an all-round way. Finally, Tang Wenbo sent a message to the students present, enlightening them that the difficulties on the road of scientific research can be overwhelmed by its beautiful scenery.
