On March 18th, the opening ceremony of the HNUST Fencing Centre, namely, the ZuoKe Cup Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Youth Fencing Competition, was held at HNUST with more than 500 participants.
The event was held from March 18th to 19th, aiming at enriching the sports and cultural life in Changsha, Zhuzhou, and Xiangtan areas, promoting exchanges between fencing associations, schools and clubs, and cultivating fencers for the 2023 provincial fencing championship.
The Fencing Centre in HNUST was built in July 2022 and funded by the ZuoKe Sports Club in Xiangtan city with more than 10 million yuan. The Centre is now put into operation. It is the first university gym in Hunan devoted to fencing.
The fencing centre would focus on the training and cultivation of Hunan-born fencers and coaches, forming a platform for outstanding athletes to enter college through independent enrollment examination, and promoting the high-quality development of Hunan’s fencing career.
It is reported that HNUST will enroll students in the fencing major through the Independent Enrollment Examination of vocational education all over China since 2023 to cultivate professional fencers.
