Ceremony Held in Memory of Confucius in Xiangtan Confucius Temple

The Confucius Temple in Xiangtan, Hunan province, hosted a Confucius worship ceremony to pass on the traditional Chinese ritual culture, on the morning of March 30th.

The Temple dedicated to enshrining Confucius, plays an important role in commemorating Confucius and inheriting the profound traditional Chinese culture.


Under the guidance of the chief priest, guests and teachers and students from HNUST proceeding to Dacheng Hall paid tribute to Confucius. People from all walks of life and representative scholars also presented flower baskets and bowed to Confucius in turn. Memorial eulogies were delivered by delegates.

The celebration was divided into ten parts, including opening the door of the Dacheng Hall, greeting the divine spirits, and presenting the flower baskets and so forth. Under the guidance of experts from the Liuyang City Cultural Center, several hundred students performed on the ceremony in the form of music, singing and dancing for worshipping Confucius.

‘The ritual of Shi Dian’, the supreme form to commemorate Confucius, was adopted. The Confucian classics was also recited to show respect to ancient Chinese philosophers and scholars.


Located in Zhaotan Academy of HNUST, Xiangtan Confucius Temple serves as a cultural and educational center gathering talents and a significant platform imparting Huxiang culture. In recent years, HNUST has integrated the profound historical and cultural heritages of the temple into talent training, scientific research, social service and other aspects. In addition, HNUST has applied various methods to preserve the temple.


Tang Yayang, Secretary of HNUST Party Committee, underscored that HNUST would further step up Confucius Temple culture research. It’s hoped that more people can have a chance to see the temple, and deepen their understanding of the cultural tradition.

Lv Shun, a student from the School of Humanities of HNUST, brought up under the influence of Confucian culture, said that the architecture of the Confucius Temple would attract more young people to learn about the Confucius Temple, so that the traditional Chinese culture and the pioneering spirit of Hunan people can be carried forward among young people.


The first seminar themed "Confucius Temple and Confucianism" of HNUST was successfully held after the memorial. During the conference, scholars and experts shared their latest research findings about the Confucius Temple and Confucianism.
