From October 14th to 15th, the retired senior staff fun games were held in HNUST by the Retired Staff Department and the Association of Recreation and Sports for the Elderly，participated by He Chunsheng, director of the department, Duan Zunqun, deputy secretary, and hundreds of senior retired staff.
In the beginning,He Chunsheng, on behalf of HNUST extended his warm greetings and high respects to the retired staff. And he introduced the university’s present status and called on them to support its development and Xiangtan municipal work on building a civilized and clean city.
On Yuhu campus, learners from the University for the Aged were wavingred flags and singing My People, My Country. Meanwhile, the southern campus was also filled with joy. Wonderful dance to classical music drew enthusiastic applause of the audiences. The spot had already been full of energy before the games began. When the games started, audiences shouted and cheered for the participants.
A retired staff member Wang Kaixian won warm applause for his outstanding performances in playing darts. “I think this program is very interesting.It not only energizes us, but also boosts our friendship and builds up our bodies”, said Wang.
At the sports meeting, the elderly both exercised their bodies and cemented their relationship. They sat together, took photos arm in arm, made some chit-chat and cheering up their friends, laughter echoing round the audience.
It is acknowledged that October is the “Respectthe Elderly”month in HNUST. Every year during this period, there will be recreational sports activities for the elderly. This year, a group birthday celebration has been held for 67 seniors over the age of 70. “Holding activities for the retired staff can not only enrich their life, but also create a campus culture to respect and love the elderly so that our young people can strengthen the sense of responsibility,” a volunteer said.
