Unveils Another Affiliated Secondary School with the “Hainiu Class” Integrating Education for All Levels

To promote the integration of science education at primary, secondary, and higher levels, the opening ceremony of the Experimental High School Attached to Hunan University of Science and Technology (HNUST) and the launch of the “Hainiu Class” took place on October 13th at No.1 Middle School of Xiangtan County.

Wang Li, Deputy Secretary of Xiangtan County Party Committee, and County Mayor of Xiangtan County People’s Government, noted that the opening ceremony marked a significant partnership between HNUST and the No.1 Middle School of Xiangtan County. He described this collaboration as an innovative approach to overcome existing challenges and foster integrated development for both sides. This partnership aims to create a solid foundation for cultivating exceptional innovative talents. Meanwhile, Wang also expressed his hope that this cooperation would boost the upgrading of primary education, contributing to the development of an educational ecosystem that promotes co-existence and shared prosperity.

With a rich 70-year history of teacher education and 80,000 trained students, HNUST has been unswervingly following the road of its characteristic primary education. In order to ultimately form a comprehensive Big Science Education Pattern, HNUST emphasizes “teacher training plus science and technology” as its core mission. In collaboration with five affiliated schools, the university has implemented the “Five Measures for Poverty Eradication” initiative.

Li Lin, Vice-president of HNUST, stated that HNUST and Xiangtan County government will continue to collaborate effectively, leveraging the strengths of college educators and the resources from the No.1 Middle School of XiangtanCounty. The goal is to provide talent and intellectual support for the Affiliated Experimental Secondary school of HNUST by establishing the “Hainiu” experimental class. This initiative aims to create a hub for cultivating top-notch innovative talent and to pioneer a new model “science and technology-oriented high school.”

It is reported that the “Hainiu Class” emphasizes “a blend of science and sports.” They focus on cultivating “Six Key Abilities”: responsibility, learning ability, creativity, concentration, cooperation ability and health. They also aim to enhance scientific education through following the “Four Commitments”, which serve as practical strategies for fostering collaboration among primary, secondary, and higher education, all while nurturing top-tier innovative talent.

Guo Shiyin, Secretary ofthe Discipline Inspection Commission of HNUST, said that establishingthe “Class Hainiu” represents a groundbreaking effort to nurture outstanding innovative talents. He emphasized the importance of focusing on the key issues and embodying the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee. It is essential to foster a new generation with a scientific mindset, prioritize the development of six key competencies, and the “science plus sports” approach within the “Hainiu Class”. To achieve this, we need to engage thoughtful top-level design and develop scientific implementation plans.

As the head of the “Hainiu” team and a national “Role Model of the Times,” Professor Wan Buyan shared his vision with the students in the “HainiuClass.” He encouraged them to face every challenge with a positive attitude, just like the drill bit of “Hainiu” that penetrates through tough barriers. He stressed the importance of embracing the joy of growth, gaining the skills needed to succeed, and taking pride in overcoming obstacles. Ultimately, he hopes they will become innovative talents who contribute to the nation's scientific and technological progress.
