In order to motivate overseas students’ learning enthusiasm and improve their study initiative, the International Education College held a series of activities such as theme class meeting, Chinese writing competition and recitation contest during the “teaching inspection week”.
Theme class meetings —— strengthening exchanges between teachers and students to build harmonious classes
Class teachers Ms Yi Linqun, Ms Yang Hui and Mr Wang Zhifei respectively held meetings for language students of class 2018, academic students of class 2016, 2017 and 2018, which were attended by main leaders and teachers of the College. In the meetings, class advisers and monitors concluded the recent learning situation, pointed out the problems and discussed the solutions. In addition, class teachers instructed overseas students to abide by the school rules and regulate behaviors, work hard in learning Chinese and professional knowledge, and try to be a qualified overseas student. The theme class meetings help cohere the class and increase harmony, friendship and unity among the classes.
Chinese writing competition —— inspiring the passion to improve writing skills
Overseas students enjoyed in retrospect of sports meeting that just finished. Teachers of the International Education College seized the opportunity to hold a Chinese writing competition under the theme of “Thoughts of 2018 autumn school sports meeting”, which involved 49 overseas students. Participants had to write in Chinese and hand in handwriting manuscript. In order to perfect their works, some students had revised the drafts for several times, which impressed the teachers a lot. The Chinese writing competition provided a platform for students to present themselves, promote Chinese study and improve their initiative, which advanced their writings to some extent.
Chinese recitation competition —— practicing oral Chinese to spread Chinese traditional culture
The Chinese recitation competition was held in the Eighth Teaching Building on November 13th. The faculty of the International Education College attended the competition, and some teachers of the School of Foreign Studies were invited. 20 participants from different countries displayed themselves. For example, competitor from Laos recited an essay Lotus·Mother in praise of maternal love, Afghan player read the essay Spring, which eulogized the vibrant spring, and Nigerian contestant recited Love for Life to express her expectation for the future. The impassioned intonation, appropriate body language and unique and exotic clothes won the judges’ praises. Through the competition, overseas students not only improved their oral Chinese, but also cultivated the taste, deepened their understanding of Chinese traditional culture, and further impressed by the charm of Chinese literature and art.
The variety of activities held by the International Education College won the hearts of overseas students who thought the events were interesting. And they were willing to participate into the activities. Therefore, the International Education College will, according to its actual situation, keep on exploring the modes of cultivating overseas students to improve their comprehensive quality, as well as the quality of overseas students training.
