A special activity, “Brisk Walking Round the Beautiful Campus”, was hosted by the Labor Union of HNUST to celebrate Women’s Day and promote national fitness. On the afternoon of March 9, the whole female faculty, taking high heels off and putting casual clothes on, gathered in the square in front of Lide Building ready to celebrate the festival.
In this activity, each participant would get a registration card at the very beginning, which could be exchanged for a gift after finishing the brisk walking and getting six stamps from six appointed spots. At 2:30 pm, female teachers arrived one by one, and the representatives of all schools, carrying the school flag, were waiting for their teammates. When everyone was here, the team started their journey towards six stamps.
On their arrival at the first spot, teachers of Business School, all wearing pink sports shirts, were excited to get their registration cards stamped by Miss Etiquette and then rushed to the next location, hoping to collect six stamps as soon as possible.
Chatting, laughing and taking photos along the way, the faculty enjoyed their time. They were sweating but not getting tired. Zou Xia, a teacher from School of Foreign Studies, carried the school flag with steady steps. She was blissful and said, “I feel so good when walking, laughing and chatting with my colleagues. This activity helps to enhance our relationship and, of course, reflects the idea of caring for women and promoting health.”
With a smile on her face, Zhang Yuqing, a teacher from School of Physics and Electronic Science who usually does exercises in campus, was on her way to win the gift. Taking part in the activity for the first time, Zhang focused on physical exercises and even invited her child to engage in the walking. “Taking a walk on such a beautiful day makes me comfortable.” she smiled, “This activity relaxes us and reminds us to pay close attention to our health. Besides, I found that the environment of the university is getting better and more exercise facilities have been installed.”
On the first floor of Lide Building, ladies lined up to exchange their six-stamped registration cards for gifts. He Shuiyan, a teacher from the School of Physics and Electronic Science, said that the innovative activity, combining green travel, exercises, and the celebration of Women's Day, stimulated the enthusiasm of teachers to participate. Zhang Xiaoyu, a counselor at Xiaoxiang College, happily received her gift and said, “We always ignore the beautiful campus because of busy work, but this activity makes up for this pity and enables us to pay more attention to the next stage of our work.”
