On the afternoon of December 12th, the Fourth Award Ceremony of “Liancheng Friendship Award” & New Year Reception forForeign Friends was held on schedule, sponsored by the Xiangtan Municipal Government and organized by Xiangtan Bureau of Human Resources and Social Security and Xiangtan Bureau of Tourism, Foreign Affairs, Overseas Chinese Affairs and Hong Kong and Macao Affairs. In the ceremony,eight outstanding foreign experts in Xiangtan were awarded, including Andrew Stefan Hursthouse, a distinguished professor of “Recruitment Program of Foreign Experts” of HNUST. During his tenure, Professor Andrew has contributed to the first environment-friendly science & technology service platform in Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Area co-established by HNUST and enterprises,promoting school-enterprise cooperation. Besides, he has held lots of academic lectures and forums in accordance with the discipline frontiers,and some youth teachers have published research papers and several co-authored SCI-coveredpapers under his guidance.
After being honored with the award, professor Andrew said, “Thanks for the great attention from Xiangtan government to foreign talents, offering us the decent working and living conditions as well as a broad platform for development. As a return, we will continue to play an essential role in building‘a Xiangtan of great beauty’.”
“Liancheng Friendship Award”, the top honor for foreign experts in Xiangtan,wasfunded by the Xiangtan Municipal Government in 2010, which is intended to encourage foreign experts who have made special contributions to Xiangtan’s economic growth and social development, and attract more to get involved in it. This award won by Professor Andrew was HNUST’s fourth successive award since 2010.
It was reported that the reception was attended and addressedby Tan Wensheng, Mayor of Xiangtan Municipality and Deputy Secretary of CPC Committee of Xiangtan. It was also presented by Wang Jing, Party Secretary of International Education School and all foreign teachers of HNUST.

Professor Andrew Stefan Hursthouse is a British expert in environmental remediation technology, an academician of Royal Society of Chemistry, and a professor as well asthe Vice Dean of University of West Scotland. In early 2016, Andrew Stefan Hursthouse was included in “100 Foreign Experts Recruitment Program” by Hunan Provincial Organization Department, making him the first foreign expert with such an honor in Xiangtan, and then he formally signed contract with HNUST as a distinguished professor.
