On April 23^rd, the World Book Day, a celebration was held in the First Library of HNUST, which was attended by He Jihua, Vice Chairman of Hunan CPPCC, Fu Jun, Vice Director of the Standing Committee of the Municipal People's Congress, Tang Yayang, Secretary of the Party Committee of HNUST, Vice President He Zelong, and Xie Hui, Vice President and Member of the Party Committee of HNUST. Meanwhile, representatives from Hunan Provincial Committee of the Democratic League, municipal committees of various democratic parties, relevant departments of HNUST, and representatives from the primary and middle schools in Xiangtan Economic Development Zone were present.

He Jihua pointed out that the theme activity was of great significance in promoting the culture construction of Hunan. He expressed the hope that members of the united front would conduct in-depth study and implement the guiding principles of the 20^th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and by doing so, to consolidate our strength. And he urged students to cherish the golden time of their life to learn, to sharpen their skills; to face hardships and challenges bravely; to read classics and absorb the essence of fine traditional culture; to integrate knowledge into practice and equip the mind with extensive reading.

Reading is an important way to acquire knowledge, inspire wisdom, and cultivate morality. Tang Yayang proposed five visions for the Reading Day activities, hoping to build consensus through extensive reading and make the “Civilized Campus”, “Civilized Society”, “Civilized Xiangtan” and “Civilized Hunan” our most beautiful cultural cards.

Fu Jun expressed that the activity was a concrete step to thoroughly study and carry out the guiding principles of the 20^th NCCPC and the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping. Fu also wished that everyone could transform the knowledge gained from reading into abilities, wisdom and strength to support the high-quality development of Xiangtan.

Wonderful performances were presented by teachers and students, such as poetry recitation Ode to the Lotus Flower, Young China and so forth.
