Hundreds of Clubs “Fight for” New Members

“Hey, girls, come on!” “Any interest? Would you like to join us?” On the morning of October 14th, 24 shows from 128 clubs were on in front of the library in north campus and the Food Court. The two-day activity for these clubs to absorb fresh blood began.

The annual activity attracted and enrolled members held in both south and north campus by turns on October 14th and 15th respectively.

A 1.8-meter-tall boy dressed in Han costume whose rough face seemed incongruous with his long wig. The boys in International Han Costume Promotion Institute dressed themselves as girls to do publicity for the club around their stall. Appealed by the exaggerating and funny modeling, many freshmen came closer for more information.

“Wow! Amazing!” some students said. The stall of the Goldfinger Club was surrounded by students. They were showing various combination locks made by cards and moving cartoon characters. Like opening normal combination locks, they entered the passwords first, then pulled the card lock, and finally the card lock opened. Lots of freshmen were captured by such “magical” handicraft, resulting in Intermittent bursts of exclamation. .

The language clubs, as usual, were popular among freshmen. ELAA and Japanese Club cosplayed the cute Pooh and Kawaii Japanese anime characters, which attracted many freshmen to queue up in a long line in front of the club’s stall to sign up.

Meanwhile, other clubs also played their trump cards to not be outdone, for example, they played the guitar and sang with it, showed street dances and figure skating, displayed yummy food and had a lucky draw, which was nothing less than an audio-visual feast, thus enticing a large number of freshmen to stop to watch and finally decided to sign up.  .

Carrying a pad of leaflets, the freshman Zhang Leqi, who majors in Visual Communication Design, has been at the clubs site since 6a.m. to seek for her favorite clubs. “My roommates and I have gone around the site a couple of times and joined some interesting clubs. There are lots of brilliant shows so that we want to hang around for a while;  perhaps some funnier clubs are waiting for us!” said she.

“Hey, guys! Let’s dance!” cried Xiao Zhisheng, in front of the Latin Dance Club, calling his roommates to join him. “Actually I don’t know how to dance. I’m just interested in it, but I take part in this club for its organizers said I can learn step by step,” said he.

Besides the freshmen, the oversea students also joined this activity with great enthusiasm. Ali from Tajikistan was one of them. It was the first time for him to see so many clubs’ activities in a Chinese university in the first year of his staying in China. Curiously he strolled along each club’s stall and went through the recruitment information. Although he only knew a little Chinese, he tried his best to communicate with the club members. “There are many clubs that cannot be found  in my country due to cultural differences. This kind of activity is really fascinating and  calligraphy is my favorite,” said Ali cheerfully.

When the clubs’ activities and performances were in full swing, Ma Binghui and Wang Yan, the vice secretaries of school league committee, came to the site in person. Secretary Ma stated that the Clubs Recruitment was a routine activity of our university. It not only showed diverse campus cultures of our school but also enriched students’ life. “I came here earlier this morning and found that every club was well-prepared this year. They were even preoccupied for the activity during the National Day Holiday. Well down! The event will be a complete success!”

“Student clubs provide an important platform for students to foster all-rounded quality. And I hope every student could find their own platform and acquire knowledge, improve their abilities and display their attractions”, said secretary Wang after watching students’ performance.

According to Yang Rui, president of school clubs union, Clubs Recruitment had been elaborately planned since the beginning of the term in the aspects of time, site, budget and on-site preparation for the event as well as logistic support. Besides, five more clubs are set up this year, namely, the Nutrition Club, Material Club, Korean Club, Innovative Photoshop Club and Lion and Dragon Dance Club.
