On the evening of April 23rd, HNUST held the launch ceremony for the World Book Day activity and 2024 "One School, One Book" program at Li Jinhui Hall. The event was attended by He Zelong, Vice President of HNUST, Wang Rong, Deputy Director of the Higher Education Division of Hunan Provincial Department of Education, Shen Aifei, Director of Xiangtan Municipal Library and other relevant representatives. The activity was hosted by Xu Ziting, a reporter from Hunan TV.
In his speech, Huang Ren highlighted that this reading promotion campaign is a specific initiative to implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's congratulatory letter, which emphasizes the importance of engaging the entire society in reading and fostering a strong culture of love for reading. Huang expressed the hope that HNUST and Xiangtan Municipal Committee of CPPCC will enhance collaboration, mobilize students and the wider community to participate in reading, and contribute to the construction of our university's "Double First-Class" initiative and the high-quality socio-economic development of Xiangtanin general.
In his speech, He Zelong wished that the reading activities could be integrated into the overall vision and construction of HNUST. This integration will not only assist HNUST in establishing a brand for promoting reading but also contribute to the overall charm and appeal of the city of Xiangtan.
Wang Rong expressed the expectation that the libraries of HNUST could improve their services, enrich digital reading resources, and actively work towards constructing collaborative and dynamic environment.
Shen Aifei expressed her wish for more young students' engagements in the activities to jointly promote cooperation and exchanges between Xiangtan public libraries and university libraries. This collaboration would contribute to the cultivation of talents in the new era.
Yan Shengyong, Director of HNUST libraries, presented a report on the operations of the libraries. He mentioned that in 2024 HNUST libraries would continue to respond to the Party's call of building a learning society and promoting national reading. HNUST libraries would actively promote traditional Chinese culture and consistently organize a variety of reading activities to engage students and teachers in reading.
During the meeting, awards were bestowed upon individuals and groups who had been recognized by the Library Working Committee of Higher Education in Hunan Province, the Hunan Provincial Department of Education, and the university-level reading activities. Among the recipients were Luo Zhenjun, Deputy Secretary of Party Committee of School of Humanities ofHNUST, recognized as an "Excellent Reading Promoter", and Liu Gongling, a student representative from the School of Mechanical Engineering. They took the opportunity to share their experiences and insights with the attendees.
