Recently, on behalf of the Faculty’s Crafts Council of HNUST and a curriculum group of A Guide to Patchwork, voluntary teachers and students paid a visit to the Qinyuan Care Center in Yuetang District, Xiangtan where they interacted with autistic children through a patchwork activity.

With the introduction of the splicing skills of a sunflower brooch from Tan Fen, President of the Council and team leader of the course, and the help of volunteers, all the children were able to successfully complete their handcrafts. Among the volunteers were Wang Li, a teacher in the School of Foreign Studies of HNUST and He Xiaoling, a Business Administration major admitted in 2020. Both of them have participated in charity bazaars many times and expressed their hope that more people could take part in supporting autistic children.

In her closing remarks, Tan proposed that every member of their course group and council would spare no effort to support the Qinyuan Care Center, through events like charity bazaars and open courses, encouraging caring individuals to help the disabled.

Open to all the students in HNUST, A Guide to Patchwork is a general elective course offered by the School of Foreign Studies, as well as the key course of the Research Centre for Education on the Ideological and Political Dimension of HNUST. Over the past three years since its establishment, teachers and students of the course have donated household appliances like air conditioners and hair dryers with the money raised from the series of charity bazaars. These donations have brought care and warmth to the people with disabilities in the Qinyuan Care Center. Today, the course has become one of the most popular courses among HNUST students.
