On April 21st, Tea Art Training and Thematic Lecture on Chinese Tea Culture and Regimen, was held by HNUST Cheongsam Association in the Library(1), aiming to promote the cultural quality of women who love cheongsam culture in HNUST and carry forward the splendid Chinese traditional culture.
The tea art training was hosted by DuanZunqun, Vice President of Cheongsam Association, featured by Liu Yan qualified with the certificate of National Tea Technician Class II, and attended by Li Lin, Vice President of HNUST and Honorary Chairman of Cheongsam Association, Guo Yinfu, Party Secretary of the School of Mechanical Engineering, Zou Yunqiu, President of Xiangtan Orchid Association, and members of Cheongsam Association.
At the beginning of the activity, Ge Jingyao, from the YouhuangGuqin Club, played a guzheng solo Sun Glowing over Mt. Jinggangshan, and greeted with a burst of applause and cheerful atmosphere. Then, a tea art show presented by two tea technicians Jiang Jingjing and Lu Minglu’s demonstrated the total twelve procedures of the exquisite tea art, winning wide acclaim.
Afterwards, Liu Yan introduced the origin and development of Chinese tea culture, briefing that the main varieties of tea are green tea, black tea, oolong tea, white tea, yellow tea and dark tea. After elaborating the different properties of tea, Liu gave some useful suggestions on healthy tea-drinking habit. For example, green tea is suitable for summer, whereas dark tea and black tea for winter.
The extensive and profound tea culture also lies in its tea making, including the selection and placement of tea set, as well as tea brewing. Liu demonstrated them by speaking and practicing, emphasized the etiquette of tea making, tea serving and tea drinking: clean your hands before making tea, place tea gently when serving tea, and take a sip when drinking tea. The etiquette of tea specialists is also an important part of tea art, and each move should pay regard to decorum.
“Tea culture plays an important role in Chinese culture. It’s characterized by being elegant. When drinking tea, what we can taste is not only the connotation of traditional Chinese culture, but also the wonder of simple life,” said LvAijing, Chairman of Cheongsam Association.
