On December 3rd, Prof. Richard Voyles, Head of the Collaborative Robotics Lab at Purdue University and Director of the Robotics Accelerator visited HNUST. A meeting on cooperation and exchanges was held in Lide Building, chaired by Zhang Ruihong, Director of the International Affairs Office, which attended by Liu Youjin, Vice President of HNUST,and some related and responsible heads of departments and colleges.
Liu Youjin, on behalf of HNUST, extended his warm welcome to Professor Richard Voylesand then briefly introduced HNUST from the aspects of history, disciplines, faculty, scientific research achievements, etc. He noted that artificial intelligence, playing a leading role in Machinery Manufacturing Industry and other disciplines, would have a considerable prospect and become a key discipline to develop. Meanwhile, Liu hoped more cooperation and exchanges on education, technology and other fields could be kicked off to create better prospects of two sides.
At the meeting, Professor Richard Voyles expressed his affirmation to the comprehensive strength of HNUST and intention of cooperation, and also briefly introduced Purdue University. Comparing the Robot 1.0 with 2.0 era in details, he pointed out that Robot 2.0 era, controlled by human, more focuses on the human-centered idea and co-works with robots. Professor Richard Voyles later made an explanation about the infinite potential of intelligence from such aspects as robots’role in natural disaster rescue, nuclear cleaning and Internet of Things. At the same time, he also hoped that the two universities would strengthen exchanges and cooperation on data manufacturing and interdisciplinary human-internet interaction.
During the meeting, Leaders of the School of Information and Electrical Engineering and the School of Computer Science and Engineering of HNUST respectively gave a brief introduction to the basic situation of their schools, the research direction and achievements, as well as conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on the construction of robot discipline, talent exchange, scientific research, etc.
