On the morning of April 29th, the inauguration ceremony of the School of Future Technology was held in the presence of on-campus leaders, representatives of alumni, faculty and students, and off-campus guests. It is known that the School of Future Technology will integrate various high-quality resources inside and outside HNUST, highlight the fields of high-end technology and equipment such as new and high technology for the future in marine mineral resources exploration, and promote the in-depth integration of artificial intelligence, information technology and advanced manufacturing technology.
To promote new engineering construction and upgradation within national strategy
Today, a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation is gathering steam. To steadily promote the breakthroughs of new engineering construction and make strategic cultivation of talents leading scientific and technological innovation, the Ministry of Education decided in May 2020 to foster and establish a number of schools of future technology in several colleges and universities.
To meet the national strategic demand, the School of Future Technology was established in HNUST.
At the inauguration ceremony, Tang Yayang, Secretary of the Party Committee of HNUST, introduced in his speech that the School of Future Technology will aim at serving China’s major national strategic needs such as maritime power, manufacturing power and innovation-driven development, promote new engineering construction, optimize the layout of disciplines, carry forward the integration of engineering and other disciplines, and advance integration and collaborative innovation among disciplines.
To focus on the core of future technology
The School of Future Technology of HNUST will focus on the fields of high-end technology and equipment, promote the in-depth integration of new-generation artificial intelligence, information technology and advanced manufacturing technology, and stimulate the independent innovation and development of equipment manufacturing.
Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering Wang Yaonan said in his speech, the School of Future Technology of HNUST based on its foundations and advantages in the field of Marine engineering equipment features, will focus on the service of maritime power, manufacturing power, and Hunan three highlands and four new missions strategy (the development goal that President Xi proposed when inspecting in Hunan Province in September, 2021), to explore modes of innovation of science and technology for high-level comprehensive university in Hunan.
Liu Tiebing, Inspector of level 2, from Science and Technology Department of Hunan province, with expectations for the construction of the School of Future Technology, hopes that universities should take the initiative to deal with the future industrial development of science and technology and the new requirements of talent cultivation, think and plan ahead and give full play to the advantage of basic research, interdisciplinary integration, striving to take the lead in the development of future science and technology and cultivation of the main force for the technological breakthroughs in the future.
To train talents for future technological innovation
Future technology competition, in the final analysis, is the competition for talent. It is necessary to explore a new talent training mode, which is the fundamental mission of the School of Future Technology of HNUST.
It is reported that the School of Future Technology of HNUST adheres to the combination of science and education, the integration of industry and learning, school-enterprise cooperation and school-local cooperation in its development and construction, and explores the implementation of the talent training mechanism applicable for undergraduate, master and doctor levels, so as to cultivate a group of scientific and technological innovation talents with long-term views who can lead the future development of science and technology innovation, and provides technologies and brains for the overall strategic layout of building China into a world manufacturing power and Hunan a province of manufacturing power.
