The 12th Hunan University Games, sponsored by the Hunan Provincial Department of Education, kicked off at Hunan Institute of Science and Technology on Sept. 5, 2022. During this competition, the sports dance team of HNUST won an extraordinary result of 2 gold and 2 silver medals on the first day, which made a good start for the University Games for the HNUST delegation.

The sports dance team first won the gold medal in the group dance of the art exhibition, and then the champion and runner-up of the Latin dance group as well as the fourth place of modern dance. In a sum, it won a total of 2 gold and 2 silver medals and achieved the first place in the overall score of the university group, exceeding the goal set before the competition of ranking first with 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal.

In addition, our school sports dance team was rewarded with the title "Excellent Team" in the competition. The team had not only won honors for HNUST, but also showed the excellent achievements in physical education teaching and the good competitive state and spirit of HNUSTers.

The satisfying performance was not possible without the joint efforts of teachers and students. Before the competition, the sports dance team has been highly valued and supported by the leaders of HNUST. Coaches and members of the team overcame difficulties and carried out training under the guidance of Tang Haijun, the head of the team.

It is reported that sports dance, was the first event of the University Games. More than 500 athletes from 34 universities in Hunan Province participated in the competition. HNUST sports dance team, composed of 24 members, took part in the three competition events for the university group: group art performance, modern dance and Latin dance.
