HNUST’s opening ceremony for freshmen and military training mobilization conference, was held in the Athletic Field (2) on September 9th, presided by Vice President Hu Shiqi and Vice President Shi Shiliang respectively. President Zhu Chuanqu addressed the ceremony.
Principal’s advice: to be a competent man
“Welcome to be a member of HNUST.” President Zhu extended his warm greetings to all freshmen. Then, he encouraged them to remain true to our original aspiration and keep our mission firmly in mind. He also exhorted them to be a new generation with a sense of patriotism, responsibility. and outstanding ability.
Zhu also pointed out that HNUST has developed into a “Double First-Class” university in Hunan Province through seven decades’ great efforts.
Professor’s advice: to be a wise man
Liu Qingquan, a professor of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, stressed that independent thinking, which could be cultivated through extensive reading, could greatly stimulate students’ innovation, creativity and critical consciousness.
Yan Lianglin, a senior of the School of Mathematics and Computational Science, shared his college life. He encouraged the freshmen to love their majors, pursue innovation, and love the motherland, the college and their teachers.
Newcomer’s voice: to be a determined man
Li Chongyang, a representative of fresh doctoral students as well as former undergraduate and graduate students of HNUST, proudly witnessed its ongoing development. He said that he would contribute himself to promoting its “Double First-Class” initiative through rigorous scientific researches. And, he sincerely hoped the newcomers would stick to their dreams with best efforts.
Then the freshman Zhang Yifan from the School of Literature voiced his determination to be a role model as a youth, a student and a Chinese in the new era.
An overseas student from Laos thanked for all the help she had received here and delivered her expectation to level up her Chinese and professional knowledge, hoping to be the cultural bridge linking China and her own country.
Subsequently, the military training mobilization conference was chaired by Shi Shiliang, where Hu Shiqi expressed his hopethat all the freshmen should hone their willpower and raise their awareness of national defence. The ceremony ended with a series of amazing military performances. After the ceremony, the freshmen’s military training got started which would last for two weeks.
