Recently, School of Architecture and Art Design of HNUST was approved to offer level-1 discipline of master's degree in Architecture, which was announced by the Academic Degrees Committee State Council.

The undergraduate program in Architecture in HNUST was established in 1989. Combined with Civil Engineering, it was approved to grant bachelor's degree in Architecture in 2017, and was rated as the first-class undergraduate discipline construction site in Hunan province in 2019. And now, HNUST has been approved to offer level-1 discipline of master's degree in Architecture. Through years of development, this discipline has formed three stable research directions: regional architectural design and theory, urban space and living environment design and theory, and architectural technology science, researches of which are saturated with distinctive features and advantages.

This discipline possesses a well-structured teaching team, with professional proficiency and high level teaching and research ability, for postgraduate cultivation. Over the past five years, they have undertaken a total of 29 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and those of provincial and ministerial level as well as 52 others entrusted by enterprises. Teachers of this discipline have published 110 papers in authoritative journals of architecture and 14 monographs. Among them, there are three national first-level registered architects, five national registered planners, and one national second-level registered architects.

The level-1 discipline of master's degree in Architecture is the third of its kind gained by the School of Architecture and Art Design of HNUST.
