Recently, the result of TEM-4 (Test for English Majors-Band 4) in 2019 was announced in the School of Foreign Studies, with the pass rate reaching an all-time high. The average pass rate of the School of Foreign Studies stood at 91.57%, 38.88% higher than the national average one. Such achievement marked the best record of the TEM-4 pass rate in the recent decade.
TEM-4 held every April is of high reference value. It aims to assess students’ ability to use basic English skills and their mastery of grammatical structures and words. The School of Foreign Studies of HNUST has always attached great importance to the cultivation of students’ ability in listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating. Four targeted training lectures were given by four experienced teachers and 2 mock tests were held for students preparing for the 2019 TEM-4. All in all, various measures had been taken to improve students’ language proficiency and competence. The excellent result achieved this year reflects teachers’ pragmatic teaching attitude and outstanding teaching ability. It also shows that the college has fufiled the fundamental task of “strengthening morality education” in higher education.
