On the morning of September 9th, the Meeting of Promoting Confucian Temple’s Protection Project in Yuhu Campus of HNUST was held in Conference Room 601, Lide Building. Tang Yayang, secretary of the Party Committee of HNUST, attended and presided over the meeting. Professor Chen Gujia, former director of Yuelu Academy Cultural Research Institute of Hunan University, Zhao Qiancheng, Vice President of HNUST etc. attended the meeting. Other leaders of relevant departments and schools were also present at the meeting.
Secretary Tang pointed out that the Confucian Temple symbolizes the cultural unity and coherence of HNUST. It is not only the "treasure" of HNUST, but Xiangtan and the country. Therefore, we should make good use of it. Combining experts’ suggestions, he put forward several requirements for promoting the protection project of Confucian Temple. First, make further improvements in the protection and repair plan; Second, carry out various tasks in an orderly manner; Third, do relevant researches on the Confucian temple and closely combine scientific research with cultural inheritance; Fourth, concentrate on and endeavor to protect the Confucian Temple; Fifth, dock well with various government departments and localities during the repair period; Last, establish a reasonable and efficient research mechanism.
Prof. Chen stated that culture is not only the soul of the nation, but that of HNUST’s development and construction, which plays an important role in the connotative development of the school. He made a high affirmation that HNUST has profound cultural heritage, and the Confucian Temple preserved in Yuhu Campus is an important cultural foundation of HNUST. HNUST should protect, inherit and make good use of it, and at the same time integrate the profound cultural heritage of the Confucian Temple into personnel training, educating, teaching, scientific research and other aspects to form HNUST’s characteristic culture.
Prof. Deng said that the Confucian Temple is well preserved. He hoped that through the overall renovation design, the historical features of the Confucian Temple could be reproduced and its unique values and charm could be highlighted. At the same time, he also expected that HNUST could integrate the rich cultural heritage of the Confucian Temple into teaching, and make full use of the cultural connotation of the Confucian Temple.
Prof. Liu pointed out that in ancient China, the Confucian Temple had been considered the cultural unity and coherence of a place, and the complete restoration of Xiangtan Confucian Temple will be a great event for both schools and regions. He hoped that HNUST could promote the protection and restoration of Confucian Temple as planned, attach great importance to the promotion work during and after restoration, and continuously enhance the influence of Xiangtan Confucian Temple. He said that the best protection for cultural relics is to make use of them. HNUST can transform the Confucian Temple into a cultural landmark of Xiangtan by carrying out a series of activities such as offering sacrifices to Confucius, and meanwhile inject life into the Confucian Temple by combining the profound cultural connotation of it with teaching and scientific research.
