HNUST Party Secretary Jiang Lizhong Delivers Speech at the 9th Forum on Innovation in Building Science and Engineering

On September 29 and 30, the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) Academic Symposium on Engineering Science and Technology and the 9th Forum on Innovation in Building Science and Engineering were convened in Changsha. Jiang Lizhong, Party Secretary of Hunan University of Science and Technology (HNUST), delivered an invited keynote speech. The event brought together more than 600 experts and scholars, including more than 40 academicians and over 80 national-level high-caliber talents, to address the central theme, “Digital Intelligence-Driven Transformation and Development of the Civil Engineering and Construction Industry.”

In his speech, titled “Earthquake-Induced Disaster Mechanisms and Seismic Fortification of High-Speed Train-Track-Bridge Systems,” Jiang systematically analyzed the disaster mechanism, difficulties in quantifying seismic damage, and insufficient accuracy of risk assessment in these systems. He also presented damage control standards for track-bridge structures and safety standards for train operation on bridges based on train running performance. The research outcomes have been successfully applied to bridge projects in high-intensity seismic areas along the Xi’an-Chengdu, Chongqing-Kunming, Chengdu-Lanzhou, Lhasa-Nyingchi, and Jakarta-Bandung High‑Speed Railway, providing technical support for ensuring train operation safety on bridges during and after earthquakes.

Founded in 2012 by CAE academician Zhou Xulong, the forum this year featured academic sessions across six specialized themes. The event was led by the Division of Civil, Hydraulic and Architectural Engineering of the CAE and jointly hosted by multiple institutions, with Hunan University’s School of Civil Engineering and HNUST’s School of Civil Engineering serving as co-organizers.
