HNUST Holds Conference to Advance High-Quality Development of 2026 Undergraduate Admissions

On the afternoon of April 21, Hunan University of Science and Technology (HNUST) held a conference to advance the high‑quality development of 2026 undergraduate admissions. The conference analyzed the current admissions landscape and outlined key strategies to enhance the quality of student recruitment.

Jiang Lizhong, Secretary of the Party Committee of HNUST, attended the conference and delivered a speech. Yu Weijian, Member of the Party Committee and Vice President chaired the event. Keynote presentations were delivered by three invited guests: Zhou Shaofeng, Director of the Student Affairs Section of Hunan Provincial Department of Education; Wei Yong, Director of the General Undergraduate Admission Section of Hunan Provincial Education Examinations Academy, and Zou Bin, Director of the Admission Office of the Undergraduate College of Central South University(CSU).
The conference emphasized that undergraduate admissions constitute the university’s “lifeline project”, directly impacting its academic reputation and long-term development. It called for a full recognition of pressing challenges, including intense competition for top-tier applicants and the rapid restructuring of academic disciplines, and urged the adoption of a holistic and coordinated mindset. Elevating recruitment quality must be treated as a strategic and foundational priority, pursued with sustained commitment. Furthermore, the conference urged each School to strengthen its sense of responsibility, enhance cross-departmental coordination, and leverage its unique strength to expand outreach, increase the appeal of its academic programs, and further bolster the University’s social reputation.
Drawing on vivid case studies and extensive data from Hunan Province and the higher education sector, the three invited speakers delivered insightful reports. They focused respectively on Hunan’s initiatives to support college students’ innovation and entrepreneurship, emerging trends in admissions, and strategic solutions to the bottleneck in undergraduate enrollment. Their expertise provided valuable guidance for optimizing HNUST’s admissions management and the quality of student recruitment.
Attendees included principal officials of the Party and Administration Office, the Publicity and United Front Work Department, the Development and Planning Office, the Undergraduate School, the Student Work Department, and the Information Office. Also present were School deans, Party Committee secretaries, teaching affairs administrators, deputy Party Committee secretaries, department chairs, and staff members responsible for regional enrollment publicity.
