Yu Weijian / Member of the University Party Committee, Vice President
Vice President Yu is responsible for the management of state-owned assets and laboratories, retired personnel affairs, continuing education, alumni relations, and domestic cooperation. He also serves as liaison with the School of Earth Science and Space Information Engineering and the Li Jinhui School of Music.
Yu Weijian, male, born in February 1978, native of Duchang, Jiangxi province, member of the Communist Party of China. He holds a Ph.D. and serves as a professor and doctoral supervisor. He received his bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering from Xiangtan Institute of Technology in 2002, his master's degree in Mining Engineering from University of Science and Technology Beijing in April 2005 and his doctoral degree in Engineering Mechanics in January 2009. From March 2013 to October 2015, he was engaged in scientific research at the Postdoctoral Research Station of Mining Engineering, Central South University.
From September 2013 to April 2019, he served as the Vice Dean of the School of Energy and Safety Engineering and the School of Resource Environment and Safety Engineering at Hunan University of Science and Technology (HNUST). From April 2019 to October 2021, he served as Party Secretary of the School of Resource Environment and Safety Engineering. From October 2021 to January 2024, he served as Dean of the same school of HNUST. From January 2024 to April 2025, he was the Director of the Academic Affairs Office of HNUST. Since April 2025, he has been serving as Member of Communist Party Committee and Vice President of the university.
As a leading talent in scientific and technological innovation of Hunan Province, a second-tier candidate of Hunan Province's "121" Innovative Talent Project, a young core teacher in Hunan Province, and an advanced individual in education work of the national coal industry, he holds multiple academic positions, including serving as an editorial board member for several journals, such as the Journal of Mining and Safety Engineering, Nonferrous Metals Science and Engineering, Journal of Mining and Strata Control Engineering, and Mining Safety & Environmental Protection. He also serves as Vice Chairman of Hunan Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering, and Standing Director of the Mining Rock Mechanics Branch of the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering, among other professional roles.
His main area of research focuses on deep rock mechanics and surrounding rock control. He has led 5 national projects, more than 20 provincial projects about enterprise cooperative research, and 7 provincial projects about education and teaching quality engineering. He has published over 160 papers, authored 2 monographs and 2 textbooks. He has received more than 10 awards, including the First Prizes in the Hunan Provincial Scientific and Technological Progress Award, and has been granted over 30 invention patents.
