Vice President Wang is responsible for development planning, human resources, discipline development, graduate education, library services, and archival work.

He oversees the Development Planning Department, the Human Resources Department (Teacher Work Department), the Graduate School (Graduate Student Work Department), and the Library (Archives). He also serves as liaison with the School of Resources, Environment and Safety Engineering, the School of Sports, and the School of Materials Science and Engineering.

Wang Weijun, male, born in September 1965 in Lianyuan, Hunan, is a member of the Communist Party of China. He holds a doctoral degree, and is a professor and doctoral supervisor. He received his Master's degree in Mining Engineering from Guizhou Institute of Technology in 1990, and his Doctorate in 2002 from China University of Mining and Technology. From 1996 to 1998, he served as Assistant to the Head of the Resource Engineering Department at Xiangtan Mining Institute. From 1998 to 1999, he served as Deputy Head of the Resource Engineering Department at Xiangtan Engineering Institute. From 2001 to 2003, he served as Deputy Director of the Human Resources Department and Director of the Faculty Affairs Office at Xiangtan Engineering Institute. In 2003, he became Dean of the School of Energy and Safety Engineering at Hunan University of Science and Technology. In December 2015, he became a Member of the Party Committee of Hunan University of Science and Technology. In April 2021, he was appointed Vice President of HNUST.

He is an expert receiving the Special Government Allowance from the State Council, a first-tier candidate of the Hunan Provincial "121 Talent Project," a Second-Class Professor, and a discipline leader in Hunan's provincial higher education institutions. He also holds concurrent positions including Member of the National Teaching Guidance Committee for Mining Engineering Majors, Council Member of the China Coal Society, Member of the China National Coal Association (ANCA), an expert on the Expert Committee on Coal Mine Support, Chairman of the Hunan Provincial Society of Rock Mechanics and Engineering, and Vice Chairman of the Hunan Provincial Coal Society. He serves on the editorial boards of Journal of Coal Science & Engineering, Journal of Mining & Safety Engineering, and Journal of Mining and Strata Control Engineering, and is the Editor-in-Chief of Mining Engineering Research. He has served as principal investigator for one Key Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, five General Programs of the NSFC, one project under the National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program), and over 60 other projects at the provincial/ministerial level and through industry-university collaboration. He has won 4 first-class and 3 second-class provincial/ministerial-level awards for scientific and technological progress, and one second-class provincial award for outstanding teaching achievements. He has been granted over 60 invention patents, published over 160 papers in domestic and international journals, with over 90 indexed by SCI and EI, and authored 5 monographs.
