Under the circumstances of strengthening education, technology and talent cultivation in China, Wan Buyan, professor and director of the Marine Laboratory of Hunan University of Science and Technology (HNUST), was awarded the title “Role Model of the Times” by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee to promote his contribution to China toward the public.
Wan Buyan, born in January 1964, a native of Huarong, Hunan Province, is a member of the Communist Party of China, a professor and doctoral supervisor at HNUST, and a delegate of the 14th National People’s Congress. Over the past three decades, he has devoted himself to the researches of marine resources exploration, making pioneering contributions to the R&D of the exploration technology and equipment of marine mineral resources in China. He has presided over and completed more than 40 national 863 programs, China’s National Key R&D Programs, and China’s Long-term Development Projects as well asprovincial and ministerial scientific research programs. He has also won various professional and technical titles. He has built a high-level innovation team and trained a large number of young scientific and technological talents. In 2021, Wan Buyan was awarded as “Most Beautiful Teacher”, and in 2022, his teaching group focusing on the deep-sea R&D of the exploration technology and equipment of marine mineral resources was selected as the second batch of the “Huang Danian-style Teacher Team among Chinese Universities and Colleges.”
The story of Wan Buyan has aroused warm reactions in the whole society. His deeds vividly embody the mission of all Communist Party members, reflect the innovation and pioneering spirit of science and technology workers, and the devotion to education in the new era.
Many people, Party members and non-party members included, especially workers in science and technology and the field of education, have expressed their determination to succeed the tradition of serving our country from senior scientists, and consolidate the power of China in education, science and technology as well as talents cultivation, to contribute to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
After the releasing ofThe Decision of Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China to Award Wan Buyan the Title of the Model of the Times, Wan was awarded a medal and certificate of the Model of the Times. Directors from the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China, Ministry of Natural Resources, People’s Republic of China, members of Hunan Provincial Committee of the CPC in charge, workers on science and technology along with representatives of teachers and students in universities and colleges attended the award ceremony.
