On the afternoon of December 17th, “National Moral Model” Professor Xia Zhaoyan’s excellent deeds were reported at Conference Hall of Lide Building in HNUST. Xia Zhaoyan, a retired professor of School of Humanities, shared his experience of revitalizing culture in the countryside after he retired. Liu Deshun, Secretary of Party Committee of HNUST attended and presided over the report, and representatives of the retired as well as teachers and students participated in it.

Xia told his experience of cultivating culture in the countryside on the theme of “Three Forgettings and One Keeping in Mind”. In the meantime, he made detailed explanation of serving the people from two aspects, devoting his lifetime to education and contributing to the hometown’s development. “Three Forgettings” refers to forgetting age, illness and status. Though at the age of 85,  Xia isn’t limited by the age. He faces life with a positive attitude despite his sickness. He said that a positive attitude is good for recovery, so we should forget the illness. Forgetting status means condescending, treating people with modesty and serving the grass roots. He calls on people to love life and to work hard in order to welcome the 100th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of China with remarkable achievements. “One Keeping in Mind” means keeping mission and original aspiration in mind. Original aspiration refers to serving the people—— to put it into practice——cultivating culture and requiting people in hometown.

“People’s need and organization’s trust are happiness to us, which are achieved through hard work”, Liu said, “Professor Xia has struck root in the countryside to cultivate culture for sixteen years, winning love and respect from people in the countryside. And we should get the enlightenment from his excellent deeds and learn from him”.
