On September 12th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs(MFA) Presenting Hunan Province was held with the theme of “China in the New Era: Innovative Hunan Embracing the World”. An 8-minute video of Hunan stunned the world, where “Hainiu”, China’s first deep sea floor drilling rig, developed by professor Wan Buyan’s team of HNUST, made its appearance.
In order to speed up the construction of an innovative province, Hunan takes innovation and opening up as a development strategy to pursue its goal.
In November 2018, the conference on the evaluation of scientific achievements of deep sea floor drilling systems and coring technologies was held in Beijing. During the conference, Hainiu enjoyed praise from 11 specialists and academicians thanks to its leading edge in core technologies. Therefore, Hainiu emerged as one of the symbols of innovation and openness, which has pushed forward the development of scientific innovation in Hunan.
