Art Festival: Exhibition of Western Traditional Representational Oil Painting








 
 
On May 15th, the Exhibition of Western Traditional Representational Oil Painting was held in the Fine Arts Building of HNUST. 23 excellent works by 14 well-known professors and artists were displayed, attracting many oil painting lovers coming from afar. With unique painting conditions provided by the School of Arts and the support of HNUST, the project---A Study on Life Portraits of Western Traditional Representational Oil Painting--- was held by the School of Arts last summer.
 
Surrounded by a crowd of people, Professor Xu Mangyao, a domestic leading figure in representational oil painting, was giving his opinion on the conflict of contrast colors. Over last 7 months, a research team consisting of famous realistic oil painters and some postgraduates of oil painting major has made great efforts to develop their study under the guidance of Professor Xu. During the research, all students of the School of Arts went to the sketching scene so as to observe and learn.
 
“Nothing is so precious as mutual exchanges and learning during the process”, Xu shared his view on the brand new and pure research means. He pointed out that although painting programs are similar, all team members vary in painting processing and canvas controlling. Moreover, Associate Professor Li Sizhu from Hunan Normal University said that he observed his students’ improvement in their works, and they have benefited a lot from this exhibition.”
 
Reviewing the research, Li Yisong, Dean of the School of Arts, said that this research was of great significance to the disciplinary construction of the School of Arts. He pointed out that it was crucial to consolidate students’ foundation and broaden their horizons in teaching process. The the academic exchange was organized to offer an opportunity to learn and communicate with the top-level teachers, helping students sense the beauty of art.
 
“Models are indispensable to learning, moreover, your horizon will be broadened if you learn from the top artists.”, said associate professor Zhao Xiangxue of HNUST.Huang Zihao, a senior student from the Department of Fine Arts, said emotionally thatthe close observation of the artistic process of some famous painters made him marvel at the charm of representational oil painting. This experience is extremely beneficial to him.
