Graffiti on Manhole Covers Beautify the Campus

The first Manhole Cover Decoration Contest was held in HNUST on April 27th. Vivid images, such as 70th anniversary of HNUST, little rabbits, Chinese Dreams, the travel frog, the little prince and his planet on manhole covers made campus different. Over 50 students from the School of Architecture and Art Design painted various patterns on manhole covers, decorating the campus and winning attention and praises from the public.

In the heat of the day, ten teams that entered the final, sketched the patterns with chalks and colored them with pigments on the manhole covers. The “Dream Team” depicted three frogs that aspired to escape from the well. In the picture, frogs finally found their way out of the well by treading on a pile of books, which implies that knowledge helps people to broaden the horizon and widen the view. Another image of graffiti displayed traditional Chinese opera, aiming to give students’ a unique way to better experience the charm of traditional opera and make them get a deeper understanding of Chinese traditional culture.

What’s more, on a background of the Five-Star Red Flag, the image of a rabbit, with a determined look, in a hat of the Red Army demonstrated the love of a young revolutionary to the Communist Party. The five stars were glittering under the sunlight and the three characters “中国梦”(Chinese Dream) were also eye-catching. Xiao Ni, one of the designers claimed that the contest offers a platform for patriotism education, which helps students strengthen the sense of ownership of the nation, so as to promote the excellent culture of HNUST. Other works in the contest were also wonderful and creative.

It is reported that the prizes of the contest will be judged jointly by teachers and online voting, and the results will be announced on the media platform of the Wechat of the School of Architecture and Art Design.
