College Students' Chinese Paintings Exhibition Opens in Honor of Qi Baishi's 160th Anniversary

In remembrance of the 160th anniversary of Qi Baishi, the Qi Baishi International Culture and Art Festival— "Inheritance and Innovation", Chinese Paintings Exhibition of College Students opened at Qi Baishi Art Galleryof HNUST (Hunan University of Science and Technology). Tang Yayang, the Secretary of the Party Committee of HNUST, gave the welcoming remarks, Kuang Xiaojin, head of Hunan Province Artists Association, made a speech, and Liu Yongzhen, the member of the standing committee and head of the Propaganda Department in Xiangtan, announced the opening of the exhibition.

Cosponsored by the Xiangtan Municipal People's Government, the Hunan Province Artists Association, and the Hunan University of Science and Technology, the exhibition strives to honor China’s art while also embracing artworks from the whole world in adherence to the theme of "inheritance and innovation".The call for entries was initiated inAugust 2023, and received 502 works from 108 universities in 8 countries, including China, Italy and Russia. Of these, a handpicked selection of 81 works from domestic universities and 91 works from foreign universities was chosen for display, which is also a platform for communicating and performing among the young art students around the world.

The works from domestic universities,whether thestyle ofrealistic or freehand, of traditional or modern, all expressa shared aspiration for peace, and are full of strong feelings of love for homeland.They not only reflect the inclusiveness of Chinese culture, but also highlight the innovative spirit of Chinese painting.

Following the awarding of certificates to the student representatives whose works were selected, the guests were invited to tour the exhibition hall.
