HNUST’s Rare and Unique Research Project of the National Social Science Fund Approved Again

Recently, the 2020 approval list of rare and unique research projects of the National Social Science Fund of China was announced, including the project “Manuscript Collation and Research of Tujia Traditional Chief Housing Engineers” applied by Professor Yang Jian from the School of Architecture and Art Design of HNUST. According to the announcement of evaluation results, 66 projects (including 20 team projects) were intended to be approved nationwide, among which another rare and unique research project of HNUST has been approved since 2019.

“Rare and unique” research project, managed in the same way as the annual key projects, was a newly-established special project category of the National Social Science Fund of China in 2018. The special project focuses on the support of those rare and unique researches which are of great significance to national development, civilization inheritance and cultural security, but are urgently needed to be conserved for lack of investment, talents, and research. It also gives preference to some disciplines, such as the history of border territory and the history of border-coast defense, and encourages scholars to use new theories and methods to conduct interdisciplinary research based on their academic interest and accumulation.

Up to now, in 2020, a total of 25 National Social Science Fund projects of HNUST have been approved, including 2 key projects, 20 general projects, and 3 youth projects.
