The Fourteenth Science and Technology Festival & Contest for Popular Science Knowledge

On the afternoon of April 22nd, the final of the Fourteenth Science and Technology Festival & Contest for Popular Science Knowledge was held in South Campus Club, which was sponsored by the Youth League Committee, HNUST and organized by the Students Association for Academic Science and Technology. Teams from six schools of HNUST battled for the champion. The contest was divided into four sessions and questions covered all fields, including history, physics, sports, chemistry, which was designed to test contestants’ resourcefulness and the scope of knowledge.

The representatives from the School of Humanities seemed to be in the leading role for their excellent performances in the first period. Meanwhile, the others seemed not to be outdone and the competition grew heated.

“How to make five coins contact with each other in ten minutes?” Both the competitors and audiences, in the second period, were challenged by the demanding operation question. As the countdown continues, the atmosphere became tense. Eventually, the School of Materials Science and Engineering, the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, and Xiaoxiang College scored in this session.

Then it came to the third period in which competitors would lose points accordingly if they failed to answer the questions correctly. The School of Materials Science and Engineering and the School of Humanities chose to continue the game after answering three questions. “Who is the first female astronaut?” “How many sessions of World Expo have been held so far?” Two teams gave wrong answers, while the Xiaoxiang College answered correctly, almost being on a par with the School of Humanities.

At last, the team from the School of Materials Science and Engineering became the winner, Xiaoxiang the second and the School of Humanities the third. “I enjoy the ebullient atmosphere and the form of competition without any nervousness.”, said the winner Li Chunhui. For him, the result did not matter a lot and the significance of participation, however, lies in enjoying the competition, gaining friendship, and enriching knowledge.
